A Snapshot of Oscar’s at the Plaza
The Deep Dish Chocolate Chip Cookie you didn’t know you need, until now.
Today I look back at a terrific meal at Oscar’s Steakhouse at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in Downtown Las Vegas. I also look ahead to an upcoming episode featuring my talk with Las Vegas chef and Honest Hospitality founder, Chef Gary FX LaMorte.
Through Gary, we met Oscar’s Executive Chef Ben Jenkins, who popped out from his busy kitchen to say hello and to make sure we had a great meal. We absolutely did. You’ll hear today about Chef’s smoked salmon carpaccio, the legendary rib cab steak, and what may be the dessert to end desserts (or at least diets), the deep dish chocolate chip cookie. About that rib cap. As I say today, for me it strikes a close-to-perfect balance between flavour and tenderness. You can read all about just what makes the cut so great in this article on Serious Eats.
For the law nerds out there, Oscar’s is named for Oscar Goodman, former mayor of Las Vegas and former attorney to alleged mobsters. From time to time, Oscar’s Steakhouse hosts the Oscar Dinner Series, where you can hear directly from Hizzoner, who tells stories from inside and outside the courtroom. If you’re not able to attend one of the dinners in person, you can hear them on the Plaza’s own excellent podcast, On the Corner of Main Street.
Making the meal at Oscar’s even better were two more great characters, our outstanding server Nick and our friend Scott Roeben of the Vital Vegas empire, who dropped by for a chat. And that chocolate chip cookie! Join us all. Today’s ten-minute snapshot is ready to take you to Las Vegas.
