Cheftimony Episode 026 – Boulder City
Today’s interview took me just south and just east of fabulous Las Vegas… all the way to Boulder City to visit with my friend Bart Cops, the Camper Chef himself.
Before getting to today’s talk, I look forward to upcoming Cheftimony episodes that will feature interviews on fermentation, on regulation and on some amazing writing in the food industry. I also express sincere thanks for recent reviews on Apple Podcasts from listeners in both the US and Canada.
To the interview! A quick trip from Las Vegas made for a fantastic final day on a recent trip that my wife and I made to the city. We were delighted to meet up with Camper Chef and so grateful that he took time – literally in the midst of moving into his new home – to guide us to his backyard patio overlooking Lake Mead, to pour us a drink, and to sit down for a great chat.
Cheftimony regulars will remember Bart from Episode 019 of the podcast. He has a story unlike any other I’ve heard. Originally from Belgium, the Camper Chef now lives and cooks and travels in the US, taking the back roads and – even more importantly – taking the time to speak to people along the way. Bart meets the locals, he talks to them, he invites them to share a meal.
In today’s interview, you’ll hear about some of Bart’s great projects, from collaborating with a retired NFL player on a glamping ground in Wisconsin (and Bart has one in the works close to Boulder City as well!) to cooking for celebrities in Beverly Hills, to upcoming TV projects. All that… plus soup!
Bart always has so much on the go, and what continues to amaze me is how generous he is with his time. And that’s not just with podcasters swooping down from Canada. Bart really does take the time to get to know people. On today’s show, you’ll hear a story about the Camper Chef’s recent interactions with a homeless woman and some security guards. All to say, I’m glad there are people like Bart in the world.
So please, join me now in southern Nevada, on a beautiful back deck in beautiful Boulder City, for my latest talk with the Camper Chef himself, Bart Cops.
