Cheftimony Snack: What’s in it for me?

Beyond the stories, I try to bring you practical information – everything from great spots to dine, to how you can be a better cook at home, to what we can all do as guests (never mind what the restaurants are doing) to improve our own dining experiences.

Today’s show is a snack-sized episode reflecting on just what Cheftimony is all about. I talk about what I’m trying to provide and ask for your help to make the show better. If there’s something you’d like to hear on Cheftimony that you haven’t so far, please get in touch!

As I’ve said in the Welcome to the Podcast and Backstory episodes, while Cheftimony does talk about food, it’s really about people. I interview chefs and lawyers simply because I have done both jobs over the years and I know lots of people in each group. Plus, chefs and lawyers reliably have some pretty good stories! So long as those stories are connected to food, I’m happy to share them on the show.

Beyond the stories, I try to bring you practical information – everything from great spots to dine, to how you can be a better cook at home, to what we can all do as guests (never mind what the restaurants are doing) to improve our own dining experiences. On today’s shows, I give you some specific timestamps from previous episodes so you can check out a few of the tips we’ve covered over the first two seasons of the show.

Looking for a top chef’s recommendation for the best piece of equipment for home cooks? Head to the 27:17 mark of Episode 001 to hear from Chef Andrea Carlson of Vancouver’s Burdock & Co.

How about a London food writer’s take on how you can improve your dining experiences? Seetal Savla of SavlaFaire gives her thoughts at 34:40 of Episode 010.

Anna Pippus of Easy Animal Free shares some of her favourite dining spots in Vancouver, a super quick vegan recipe idea, and two great tips for making delicious vegan meals at home. Just head to the 39:40 mark of Episode 014.

After more quick dishes? Chef Thompson Tran of The Wooden Boat Food Company shares a lightning-quick Vietnamese dish at the 35-minute mark exactly of Episode 009. Lawyer-turned-chef Willin Low, who has restaurants in Singapore, Taiwan and Japan, gives his take on a wonderfully quick, versatile and delicious dish starting at 47:37 of Episode 020.

Then, of course, the question of what to drink with dinner! Episode 023 brings you the recommendations of Wine Director Kelcie Jones of Chambar Restaurant and of my law world colleague, Bruna De Vita, QC. And about those lawyers! Las Vegas-based attorney Laura Tucker gives her take on the similarities between the culinary and legal worlds starting at 47:48 of Episode 025.

Toward the end of today’s episode, I look ahead to next week’s interview with a fellow lawyer and food enthusiast, Jeanie Smith. I also remind you to send your input to help me make the show better – you can do that on InstagramFacebookTwitter and by good old-fashioned email. Get in touch!
