Cheftimony Snack: Trips Report

I recently reached out to Chef Jenny Dorsey for her recommendations on where to eat, and she came through with a fantastic website full of great ideas.

While I really did have good intentions to bring you the interview from Black Sheep Las Vegas this week, instead I have a whole host of fascinating excuses as to why that episode is going to be a wee bit delayed. Having reviewed those excuses, though, they’re not really all that fascinating so instead the show this week will feature some more detail on the food stops during the last trip to Las Vegas, some thoughts about a trip to New York City coming up this fall, and a look ahead to some upcoming interviews on the drinks side of the culinary world.

First to Las Vegas, I reminisce about the cheeseburger with raw onion I had late on my first night in town at In n’ Out Burger in the Linq Promenade, followed quickly by an amber ale from the craft brewery within the Ellis Island Casino just off the Strip. The following day, I had a delightful brunch at my must-visit spot in Las Vegas, Bouchon Bistro in the Venetian Resort.

Later the same day, friends and I had an afternoon snack at American Coney Island within The D Las Vegas where we learned (from the guy ahead of us in line) that the secret to the brilliant coney sauce is the fact that it’s made from beef heart. Some of us found that off-putting, but the one of us writing this report thought it sounded delicious. That evening, we headed to Pizza Rock and on today’s show, I have a quick run-through of some of the many, many styles (and oven temperatures!) for the pizzas at this great downtown stop.

You’ll also hear about the pool party at NoMad Hotel on Saturday followed by dinner at Prime Steakhouse by Jean-Georges Vongerichten in the Bellagio Resort Hotel. And I’ve got a few more thoughts on the Sunday brunch we enjoyed at Ada’s in Tivoli Village.

Looking ahead to New York, I recently reached out to Chef Jenny Dorsey for her recommendations on where to eat, and she came through with a fantastic website full of great ideas. Still, I’m always open to more suggestions, so if you have favourite spots in NYC, please let me know!

Coming up on Cheftimony, you’ll hear interviews with people who think long and hard about just what we should be drinking with our food. I’m really looking forward to bringing you the thoughts of cicerone Chad McCarthy and barman extraordinaire Peter Van de Reep of Camp Upstairs.

For now though, join me for quick culinary thoughts on Vegas and New York…!
