Cheftimony Snack: “Live” from New York
Today’s snack-sized episode was recorded in an incredible secret garden behind a lovely pastry shop in the Williamsburg neighbourhood of Brooklyn. My wife and I are in New York for the second phase of our honeymoon, and we stumbled upon Caprices by Sophie as we were walking to lunch at Dziupla, a Polish place with fantastic pierogies.
I’d been hoping to find a decent spot to record, and did this place ever deliver. I sat out back with the garden to myself, my microphone and my digital recorder. My thoughts in the garden ran from a recent gala fundraiser I was lucky to attend in Vancouver to upcoming episodes of the show to some of the best bits of New York we’ve taken in so far.
The gala was for the wonderful organization Growing Chefs. It’s a different type of fundraising dinner, the only one I know that lets you wander the kitchens and interact directly with the chefs. It happens once a year, so if you’re going to be in Vancouver in October, go!
Looking ahead to full episodes of Cheftimony, I talk today about my interviews with Chef Jesse McCleery of Pilgrimme Restaurant and Las Vegas-based attorney (and food and craft-beer enthusiast) Laura Tucker.
On the New York front, I re-cap a stop at Doughnut Plant, lunch at Boqueria, an amazing happy hour with friends at Art Bar, and a delicious, fun, bustling dinner at The Four Horsemen in Brooklyn.
I’m heading back into the culinary fray of New York and will have more to say on the topic next week. For now, click play and join me for a New York snack!
