Cheftimony Snack: Time for Hospitality

The many ways to help the restaurant industry and to find local, healthy food during these strange days.

In these trying times, the culinary industry remains hospitable, and that’s important.  In an industry that’s been hit very hard by Covid-19, I see constant examples of culinary professionals looking out for others, making real efforts to feed their neighbours. On the show today, I look back quickly at some recent episodes that have dealt, in one way or another, with the pandemic, and ahead to some upcoming interviews. The constant across the episodes is the people who make up the incredibly important hospitality industry.

On a recent snack-sized episode called Some Resources, I discussed some of the many ways to help the restaurant industry and to find local, healthy food during these strange days. Episode 034 brings you talks with five chefs around the world and their thoughts on the impact of the crisis and what we as the restaurant-loving public can do to help. Episode 035 – Wine and Wifi – is key for anyone considering a career or industry change. I clinked glasses (virtually) with Tania Tomaszewska of TT Wine Explorer who made the move from banking lawyer to wine consultant. And on Episode 036, I spoke with the CEO of a community supported fishery about supply chains and globalization and with a lawyer and a restaurateur about an amazing initiative in Vancouver that sees restaurants feeding their neighbours and communities. Please join us all for these episodes if you haven’t already.

I also talk on the show today about some upcoming episodes. One will be with Sarah Duignan, host of the wonderful AnthroDish Podcast, one I highly recommend you check out. Sarah and I spoke about the impact of the pandemic, and I really appreciated her insight as a food-loving anthropologist. Another interview coming up is with Artie Choke, one of the sources behind Vancouver’s anonymous kitchen scene ‘zineChoke the Zine. And there’s another in the works with a lawyer whose practice includes the legal ins and outs of buying and selling alcohol in British Columbia’s hospitality industry. All that and more is ahead on Cheftimony!

For today though, join me for this quick snack to set you up for your weekend. Stay safe, stay well, and let’s be kind to each other.
