Cheftimony Episode 038 – Easy Peasy Sweets

My guest today is Jessie Sheehan, a lawyer turned baker… and writer… and recipe developer… and cookbook author… and undeniable TikTok sensation!

Finally, an episode that is more sweet than savoury. My guest today is Jessie Sheehan, a lawyer turned baker… and writer… and recipe developer… and cookbook author… and undeniable TikTok sensation! After clerking at the Southern District of New York, Jessie joined a boutique law firm where she practised entertainment litigation. As you’ll hear today, this was decidedly not the career for Jessie. So, where other associate lawyers might have been looking to impress law firm partners or to take on more files, Jessie walked away from law and into… a bakery.

Jessie started an internship of sorts, working at Baked in Brooklyn. Baked was (and is) a bakery that creates the types of sweets that Jessie loves – big, big treats in the classic Americana style. Jessie developed her culinary skills at Baked and then combined what she had learned in law and at the bakery to launch her own career.

Today you’ll find Jessie posting frequently on social media, creating amazing sweets that are easy to make at home, and publishing cookbooks. In our interview, Jessie and I dive into the reality of work life, whether that’s law or cooking or anything else. What might appear glamourous from the outside is almost certainly a whole lot of hard work for the person who is making it seem easy.

The good news for Jessie, and for us, is that all her hard work is now dedicated to a delicious industry that she loves. Join us for our talk!
