Cheftimony Snack: Some Resources

I’m sharing a few resources I’ve noticed lately.

I hope you are staying safe, keeping in touch with friends and family (remotely!), and taking time to enjoy delicious, healthy food through these trying times. On today’s snack-sized episode, I’m sharing a few resources I’ve noticed lately. They fall into two general groups. The first are resources that could help you to source healthy, locally-produced foods. And the second are resources that can help all of us to support the restaurants we love – now – to help ensure they will be there to welcome us back when they can.

Many of the resources I cover today are focused on British Columbia and some specifically on the Vancouver food scene, but I encourage you to look for similar things happening wherever you are. The hospitality industry is doing amazing work right now, and I’m confident that wherever you are, there will be chefs, cooks, servers, bartenders and more working actively to support their communities.

Scout Magazine has published a helpful map/list of restaurants in Vancouver offering take-out services, and Vancouver Farmers Markets are keeping you up to date at their website too. A company I discovered recently that usually supplies restaurants – Legends Haul – now offers retail home delivery.

For some options to help support restaurants, have a look Eat Later and Breaking Bread. And to help restaurant employees who are now unemployed, check out the Vancouver Food + Beverage Community Relief Fund.

Save Small Business is an initiative with calls for government action that I’ve seen circulating on a lot of hospitality social media. Read more at their website. And for a great write-up about what is happening to the restaurant industry in the United States, the New York Times recently published a piece written by a group of prominent New York chefs. The article will give you a good sense of the importance of the hospitality industry and the magnitude of the impact of Covid-19 on it.

The most important thing is to stay safe. Please do that, and please support the restaurants you love absolutely as best you can.
